Foolish Design

Just found a new site, Foolish Design. Interesting take on Intelligent Design theories. Basically, it’s a refinement of the reductio ad absurdum form of argument. While Intelligent Design attempts to posit the existence of a vastly intelligent being who created life as we know it, Foolish Design appears to be poking fun at the idea by suggesting that if we do have an intelligent creator of life as we know it, they had a strange sense of humor in making the universe the way that they did. Of course, the entire site is written up to look like they’re advocating for Foolish Design, which makes the site a bit more comical. Officially, they call themselves the “Center for Foolish Design Advocacy.”

Personally, I think that Intelligent Design theory is weak because it is a circular argument, which is to say that if life is so complex it required an intelligent designer, then that complex intelligent designer is almost certainly so complex as to require an even more intelligent designer behind it, and so on, ad infinitum.
